(I have taken this prayer from a book called Sandhyavandhana stotra mala published by Devi book stall kodungallore. Stanzas 1-24 of this very musical prayer describes what is happening in every home for the modern man and advises him to pray the Goddess. From then on it is a prayer addressed to the mother Goddess. I have a humble request. Kindly read this prayer.)
1.Jeevitham manoharam aakkanam nirantharam ,
Jeevikal athiunnai padukal pedugayaam.
The life should be made pretty constantly,
All being work hard towards it.
2.Kinaru kuzhikkunnu , parakal thakarkkunnu ,
Kunnukal kuzhiyakki theerkunnu pala tharam.
They dig wells , they break stones,
They make hills in to holes on earth.
3.Lokathil kaanum kamya sukhathe bhujikkuvaan,
Pakathil pala vazhi nokkuyaani marethyar,
For enjoying the pleasures that we see in this world ,
These men are trying to find various ways.
4.Visramamillathu oro margangal anweshichu,
Nithyavum parishkaram kandethan uzharunnu.
Searching for various ways without any rest,
They struggle to find out various modern improvements.
5.Balyamam kalangalellam kalichum chirichum ,
Karthavya Jnana bodhamillathe kazhiyumbol,
6.Youvanathilekku odi yethunnu janam pinne,
BHavana [alathai theerunnu hrudayathil.
After playing and laughing in the days of childhood,
When they spend time without any ideas of what is their duty,
These people rush and reach to the period of their youth,
And in their mind several imaginative thoughts occur.
7.Jana sevanamenna natyathil pala joli,
Ozhivillathe cheythu kaikal aakunnu vitham,
Pretending that it is a social service after doing,
Work without any rest, they earn lot of wealth.
8.Athinnu sesham oru Grahastha jeevithathe ,
Nayikkan ichikkunnu , deivathe marakkunnu.
After that they desire to lead a domestic,
Life and forget God completely.
9.BHuvana mathavaya Devi than karunyathaal,
Karathil ananjoru dhanathe kandu janam./
Due to the mercy of Goddess who is mother of the world,
People see lot of money in their hands.
10.Madhichu moolathayum marannu thudangunnu,
Deivam yennathumidhya sankapam yennu othunnu.
After boisterous enjoyment , they start forgetting their roots
And they tell that God is only a useless imagination.
11.Gruhathinnu aakruthikal neeki , nalloru roopam,
Koduthu veendum pani kazhippikunnu pinne,
They change the shape of thir homes and give it a good form,
And rebuild their homes again.
12.Athinnu alankaram poranju chithrangale,
Nirmichu pathikkunnu , dhanavum kshayikkunnu.
Seeing that it lacks decorations , they get done pictures,
And paste it on their homes, their money comes down.
13.Dhanathe sampadhippan virandu nadakkunnu,
Sathyamaam margangale pathukke thyajikkunnu.
For earning money they6 start wandering aimlessly,
And slowly forsake methods based on truth.
14.Panam chodikkumennu bhayanu Bandhukkale ,
Kanumbol vazhi mari maranju nadakkunnu.
Thinking that they will ask for money , when they,
See relatives they go by a different way.
15.Ingane swantham karyam shubamakkuvan vendi,
Mangala karyadhikale sarvavum marakkunnu.
Like this to make their own actions as happy ,
They forget al the auspicious deeds.
16.Vedantha chinthakalum , deiveega chinthakalum,
Chintha mandalathingal ninnaho marayumnnu.
The thoughts of philosophy and that of God,
Fade away from their minds this way.
17.Angane chirakala prayathnam kondu ketti,
Kootiya purakkullil vasikkavum neram
18.Vaidyanmaar vicharichal sadyamakathathaaya ,
Vyadhiyil pettu payye sayyaye prapikunnu.
And like that when they start living in their home,
Which was built due to great effort for some time,
And they reach slowly their beds getting sick,
With a illness which cannot be cured by doctors.
19.Angane kidakkayil , kidakkum maharogi ,
Neriya sabthode pulambum vartha onnum
20.Chevi kollathe bandhu kootavum koottu karam,
Akannu pogum neram manassu ventheedunnu.
When that great diseased one was lying like that,
Without hearing the words that he was uttering in a low tone,
When their friends and crowd of relatives move away,
Their mind starts burning and they suffer.
20.Neerunna hrudayithil anneram mathram yethum,
Koorulla daivathine chinthippan avasaram.
In their burning heart only at that time will reach,
The time to think about the God who is sincere.
21.Mindanum chinthippanum vayotharaa velayil,
Deiva chinthanakkundo santharbam labikkunnu.
At that time when we are not able to speak or think,
How will we get a chance to think about God.
22.Aayushkalatheyellam sukhippan vendiyulla,
Marganveshanathinnai chilavakkiya sesham,
23. Easwara bhajanakku thuniyum janangalkku,
Kanal neerile snanam pol aanu anubhavam.
After spending all their life time in searching ,
For the ways to enjoy pleasures,
To those people who start praying to God,
The experience would be like taking bath in mirage water.
24,Vedana kondu kidannurundu pirandaho,
Jeevitham oru vazhi pokunnu bhayankaram.
The horror of life would thus pass on,
In rolling and turning lying down.
25.Ingane aayush kalam veruthe thulakkathe ,
Bangiyil Devi padam kumbittu vanangunnen.
With out wasting our life time like this,
I would prettily bow before the goddess and salute her.
26.Papathim santhikkai modathodu amba thande,
Mahathmya ganga thannil aradi kulikkuvin.
For getting rid of the sins , Please take bath with joy,
In the ganges of the greatness of the goddess.
27.Kama krodha lobhadhiyaam sathrukkale,
Kamari Priya kadakshathaal jayikkuvin,
With the help of the darling of the enemy of Manmatha,
Win over the enemies like passion, anger and greed
28.Sree yennum, Vani yennum, Parvathi devi yennum,
Bhairavi, Bhadrakali , Chandikadeviyennum,
29.Bagalamukhi , Chinnamastha, mathangiyennum,
‘Vividha nama roopa bhedangal Kai kandaho,
30.Sarvathra vilangunna Brahma roopiniyakum,
Sachidananda swaroopineyaam Amba thanne,
31.Sarvendriyangalaalum maswadhikkuka nithyam,
Keerthana dhyana pradakshinangal nadathuga.
Taking different and different names and forms like,
Sre, Vani , Goddess Parvathi , Bhairavi,
Bhadrakali , BHagalamukhi , Chinnamastha,
And Mathangi and shining every one,
With a form of Brahmam and the form divine joy ,
Is only Goddess Amba and so let all sense organs,
Enjoy her daily and sing, dance and go round her.
32.Amba than kadakshathil aagunnu lokangal than,
Srushtiyum, raksha , samharangalum bhavikkunnu.
It is as per the glance of goddess Amba,
That the creation , upkeep and destruction of the worlds take place.
33.Trimurthikalkkum chalicheedanam yennundengil,
Parayaam amma thande kadakshamrutham venam.
If the divine trinity wants to move a bit, they should have,
The nectar of the glance of the divine goddess Amba.
34,Allengil sthanu thotta devanmaar sthoonam pole,
Nischalanmarai theerumennathu darikkuvin.
Please understand that if it is not for her the devas,
Starting from Lord shiva would become like a pillar.
35.Athra mahathmyamulla Chothanikkara yamma,
Mathrame thunayullu , yennarinjalum.
Please understand that our onloy help ,
Is The Mother of Chothanikkara who is having such greatness.
36.Yethilum yekkalathilum onnu pol thilangunnu,
Sakthi roopiniyakum Amba than mahatmyangal.
The greatness of Amba who is personification of power,
Is shining in everything and at all times.
37.Onnu pol oro Maha vidhvanmaar paranjathinnu,
Anthamilla , aadhiyumilla madhyavum illayallo.
All the great ly learned people are saying that ,
She does not have beginning, middle or end.
38.Aadhi Madhya anthamillathu inganeyulla deviee,
Viswarooparthu rasippu Bhaktha vrundam.
The devotees would see the supreme form of this goddess,
Without beginning , middle or end and enjoy it.
39.Kama roopiniyaya deviyaam Visalakshi,
Kamangal yellam aruleeduvaan mansullol,
The Visalakshi who has the form of desire,
Has the mind to fulfill are my wishes.
40.Onnu yennil kadakshippan Veenirakkunnen amme ,
Nin magan nishpapanai shuddhanai bhavikkatte.
I salute you and beg you to glance at me, mother,
And let your son become a non sinner and a pure one.
41.Agnanam kondu cheyyum dushkarma marmangale ,
Vijnana pradhayini , chothanikkara amme.
42.Bedichu sanmargangale kanichu thanneduvaan,
Modhichu bhakthyadhara poorvam jnan namikkunnen.
Oh Goddess who gives scientific thought , Oh mother of Chothanikkara,
Please show me the correct path after breaking,
Those bad acts which I did out of ignorance,
And I salute you with joy and with great devotion.
43.Nadakkumpozhumee , jnan kidakkumpozhum ninde ,
Madura charithangal padikkan varam tharu.
Please give me boon to read your sweet tales,
When I walk and also when I lie down.
44.Papathulangal yellam karinju potte nalla,
Punyangal yenne vannu valam cheythitatte.
Let all the stacks of sins be completely burnt out,
And let blessed deeds coma and stand round me.
45.Athinnai Kamakshiyam amma than kadakshangal,
Athirallathee yennil sutharaam pathikkate.
Because of that let the glance of mother Kamakshi ,
Fall on me splendidly and limitlessly.
46.Maya karmangal kondu vannethum maranathe,
Maya deviyaam amme nee neekki tharename.
Oh mother who is Goddess Maya , please avoid,
The death which com es due to illusion .
47.Yena mohana nethre Sankari Shubha kari ,
Nanamo , hasthavalambam yekeeduvaan.
Oh Goddess with pretty eyes of a deer , Oh Sankari, Oh goddess who does good,
Are you feeling shy to give your arms to support me?
48.Venamo, parikshaka ithrayum , Mahamaye,
Eenamodee jnan vazhthi sthuthikkam paramambike.
Oh great enchantress , are so many tests necessary,
Oh Divine mother , I would greet and praise you in a musical manner.
