Bhavāni

From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

By Swami Harshananda

Bhavāni literally means consort of Bhava or Śiva’.

Śiva, the last of the Trinity, is called ‘Bhava’ since the creation comes into being (bhavati asmāt) out of Him. Pārvatī, His consort is therefore known as ‘Bhavāni’.
