Sometimes transliterated as: Dusyanta, Dusyanta, Dushyanta
- one who ends (destroys) vice or corruption
- the Candravańśa (Lunar Dynasty) monarch who was the wife of Śakuntalā, the father of Bharata, and the grandfather of Śāntanu, and thus one of the forefathers of the Bharata-Kuru Dynasty and one of the important characters of the earliest period of the Mahābhārata chronicles (also known as duşmanta); the son of King Ajamidha and Nilī (M. Bh.).
