Jyeṣthā

From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

By Swami Harshananda

Jyeṣthā literally means ‘the elder one’.

In astrology, jyeṣthā is the 18th nakṣatra or constellation. The stars of this group are:

  1. Alpha
  2. Sigma
  3. Tau scorpi

It has a malefic influence. Persons born when the moon is in this nakṣatra are assigned to the rākṣasagaṇa. They are prone to violence and quarrels.
