By Swami Harshananda

Sometimes transliterated as: Sani, Zani, shani

Śani is also called as Śanaīścara which means slow-moving. He is the seventh planet in the solar system. The puraṇas describe him as the son of Surya (Sun-god) and Chāyā.[1]

  1. Chāyā means shadow goddess of Sarnjñā, the true wife of Surya.
