Kāmbhoja
By Swami Harshananda
Kāmbhoja was the region to the north-west of the country. It extended from the Punjab to Bactria or Balkh. It was probably to the north of the present day Kabul. The country and people of Kāmbhoja were well-known in ancient days.
It was known for its excellent breed of horses and great warriors. It was considered as a ‘Mahājanapada’ or ‘a great country’.
Sudakṣiṇa was the king ruling over it during the period of the Mahābhārata and sided with the Kauravas. He was killed by Arjuna in the war of Kurukṣetra.
