Colonial Discourse and the Suffering of Indian American Children Book Cover.webp

In this book, we analyze the psycho-social consequences faced by Indian American children after exposure to the school textbook discourse on Hinduism and ancient India. We demonstrate that there is an intimate connection—an almost exact correspondence—between James Mill’s colonial-racist discourse (Mill was the head of the British East India Company) and the current school textbook discourse. This racist discourse, camouflaged under the cover of political correctness, produces the same psychological impacts on Indian American children that racism typically causes: shame, inferiority, embarrassment, identity confusion, assimilation, and a phenomenon akin to racelessness, where children dissociate from the traditions and culture of their ancestors.

This book is the result of four years of rigorous research and academic peer-review, reflecting our ongoing commitment at Hindupedia to challenge the representation of Hindu Dharma within academia.

Mann mein khot bhari

From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

Translated by P. R. Ramachander

Mann mein khot bhari aur mukh mein hari
Phir mandir mein jaane se kya fayada
Mail mann ka naa doya badan dho liya
Phir ganga nahane se kya fayda

If one’s Mind is filled with blemishes and Hari in the mouth,
Then what is the use of going to temple,
If one has not washed his mind of dirt but he has washed his face,
Then what is the use of bathing in Ganga

Mann mein murat prabhu ki utaari nahi,
Hai sabse bada to bhikhaari vahi,
Dhan daulat pe tu kyu gumaan kare,
Jab sang hi naa jaye to kya fayada.

He has not taken out the form of God from his mind,
But he is the one who is the biggest beggar,
Why are you having vanity of money and wealth,
For if you are not going to any society then what is the use of them

Tu roj ramayan hai padhta magar,
Vyarth hai padhke mann na utaari agar,
Naa maane pita maa kahana jo tu,
Phir ramayan padhne se kya fayada.

You are daily reading Ramayana but,
It is no use by reading it, if it is not going in to your mind,
If you are not going to obey words of father and mother,
Then what is the point in reading Ramayana.

Updesh to achhe tu deta phire,
Aur karta karam tu sada hi bure,
Phale khud per karo amal baad mein,
Gyan duje ko dene ka hai kayada

You are always giving very good advice,
But you always do bad actions,
First you should do actions yourself and then implement it,
For if not Your giving wisdom to others is not proper.

Teertho pe gaya tu magar mann tera,
Kaam krodh mein dala tha jispe dera
Mann kaa kaam jo sabse bada na kiya
Charo dhaamo mein jaane se kya fayada.

You went to sacred waters but your mind,
Had not been hidden from anger and passion
If you have not made the action of mind a wide place,
What is the use of going to Chardh
am*.
