Saptasādhana
By Swami Harshananda
Saptasādhana literally means ‘seven fold spiritual path’.
The works on Haṭhayoga like the Gheranda Samhitā[1] describe seven exercises for purifying the body and the mind, and making it fit for yogic sādhana. They are:
- Śodhana - purification
- Dṛḍhatā - strengthening
- Sthairya - steadiness
- Dhairya - steadiness produced by the restraint of the senses
- Lāghava - lightness
- Pratyakṣa - direct perception
- Nirlipti - isolation
