Svarga and Naraka

From Hindupedia, the Hindu Encyclopedia

By Swami Harshananda

Svarga and Naraka literally means Heaven and Hell.

The experience of joy and happiness here is svarga and the opposite is naraka.

While there is no fixed or consistent doctrine in Hinduism and any other Arya dharm of more than 1 heaven, the blissful state of Moksh is considered heavenly wherein the atma (soul) is with Brahm (The Supreme.) In other words, the state of Moksh is eternal heaven.

There is no fixed or consistent doctrine of hell in Hinduism and any other Arya dharm of hell. There are theories in scriptures of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism but they are not a confirmation in the religions.
