Talk:Objections to the Doctrine of Karm and Responses:Rebirth, Karm and Forgetfulness

Objection: Why should we get punished or rewarded for something done in a past life that we do not even remember? Not seeing the link between the Karm and its effect means that we cannot learn from the consequences of our actions and become wiser and better.

Answer: The relationship between Karm and rebirth as two sides of the same coin is established through other corroborating truths, such as the inherently just nature of the Bhagavān and the overarching moral fabric of the universe.

Forgetting our past lives is, in fact, a blessing. Retaining memory of countless past lives—with all their joys, betrayals, regrets, and traumas—would make meaningful living in the present almost impossible.
