Traditional bullock cart racing in rural India

Racing in carts drawn by bullocks and other animals is a popular pastime in rural India even today. Even in the Vedic literature, examples of chariot and carts racing in carts drawn by different creatures are mentioned. Sometimes, due to animal rights concerns, these events are now frowned upon. Similarly, bull-fighting events like the traditional sport of Jallikaṭṭu have often been banned due to animal rights concerns.
