Racing in carts drawn by bullocks and other animals is a popular pastime in rural India even today. Even in the Vedic literature, examples of cart racing in carts drawn by different creatures are mentioned. Sometimes, due to animal rights concerns, these events are now frowned upon. Similarly, bull-fighting events like the traditional sport of Jallikaṭṭu have been often banned due to animal rights concerns.
