- Festivals honoring relationships: E.g. Rakshabandhan
- Festivals that are associated with the change of seasons, or agricultural patterns: E.g., Pongal, Vasantha Panchami
- Festivals occurring regularly in the calendar: E.g.,. Ekādashī occurs twice every month.
- Festivals occurring annually or even less frequently – for example, the Mahākumbh occurs once every twelve years at one of the four holy spots by rotation and is attended by tens of millions of Hindus.
