  2. the group of eight female goddesses, or personified powers, who are the companions of the Mother Goddess, also known as aşţasakhī, or the eight friends, namely: Śailaputrī, Candraghanţā, Skandamātā, Kālarātri, Candikā, Kuşmāndī, Kātyāyanī and Mahāgaurī.
