Saptapurī literally means ‘the seven sacred cities’.

The following seven cities were considered great places of pilgrimage:

  1. Avantī
  2. Ayodhyā
  3. Dvārakā
  4. Haridvāra
  5. Kāñcīpuram
  6. Kāśī
  7. Mathurā
