Ashwini Tambe is a Professor Emertia, The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at University of Maryland as of April 2024. According to she profile, her research interests are Citizenship, Decolonial Feminisms, Girlhood, Interdisciplinarity, Postcolonial Feminisms, South Asia, State Theory and Transnational Feminisms.

She has published no books, papers, or research pertaining to Hindus, the Indus Civilization, or caste.

In 2016, she signed a letter supporting South Asian Faculty Group (SAFG) letter addressed to the State Board of Education, California Department of Education, dated May 17, 2016. They stated:

1. "There is no established connection between Hinduism and the Indus Civilization."
2. "It is inappropriate to remove mention of the connection of caste to Hinduism."
