Viveka

Viveka literally means ‘discrimination’.
This is the first of the four disciplines mentioned under sādhanacatuṣṭaya. It means discrimination that helps an aspirant to distinguish the real from the unreal, the eternal from the non-eternal. For instance, the body is non-eternal and hence unreal in essence whereas the ātman, the soul, is eternal and hence real.
